Math Review Games [Free Games Inside]
Oh my word, I’m tired.
It’s the end of the year and apparently my body is immune to four cups of coffee because I’m still exhausted. However, my students simply are not.
In fact, somehow their energy levels are that of a wild animal. Some would say I’m being a wee bit dramatic. But I promise you, I am not.
Send help.
Better yet – send me end of the year math games that can keep my students busy with a capital B.
Love,
“A tired teacher”
I’ve got you, teacher friend.
Tic-Tac-Toe Math Review Game
My five and seven year old daughters love playing tic-tac-toe. We always play it at restaurants while we’re waiting for our food. So of course, I needed to turn it into a math review game because what better way to keep kids engaged at the end of the year than with games. Right?

But, What Grade Levels Are Available?
If you teach 2nd grade, 3rd grade, or 4th grade, you’re in luck because I have free tic-tac-toe math review games for you, friend. UPDATE: I’ve received hundreds of requests for a 1st grade set, so you’ll find that one below as well!
Let me go ahead and show you how to play the games, then you can download the free file below.

What Do I Do After Downloading the Free Game?
- First, print out the tic-tac-toe game board. I like to print mine on colored paper but white paper is perfectly fine, too.
- Then, go ahead and print the X’s and O’s cards.
- Next, print and cut out the actual math question cards. I like to laminate all these pieces, that way I can use the game year after year.
But if you’re in a time crunch, or are simply too tired, you could even print out the pages for each pair of students, and have them cut out all the pieces. Once they’re done cutting out the pieces, they can begin playing the game with their partner.

How Do You Play this Tic-Tac-Toe Math Review Game
Place all the math review question cards face down in a pile.

Next, BOTH students will solve the math problem. This keeps both students accountable and on task the entire time. They will both record the answer/show their work on their own recording sheet.

If the player that drew the card answers correctly, they get to place their math card on any space on the board ( see the the picture below). If they do not answer correctly, they don’t get to place a X or an O on the board on that turn.

Now player 2 will draw a card. Again, both students will solve the problem. If player 2 answers correctly, they get to place their math card on any space, then place their X or O card right on top.

They continue taking turns until a student plays three cards in a row, diagonally, horizontally, or vertically.

What Happens When they Finish Playing One Round of the Game?
They play another round. Woot, woot! Keep em’ busy!
They will only use up to 9 questions per game and I’ve included 72 different questions, so they have enough question cards to play multiple rounds.
I know, I know. You can just go ahead and call me your Math Genie 🙂
What 3rd Grade Math Questions are Included?
I’ve included questions from all 3rd grade math standards. Take a look at the picture below to see some of the questions included. It’s perfect for end of the year math review.

What 4th Grade Math Questions are Included?
Just like the 3rd grade set, I’ve included questions from all 4th grade math standards. Take a look at the picture below to see some of the questions included. Again, it’s great to have these questions to review all they’ve learned this school year.
